Maximizing Travel Card Rewards

Imagine this vacation, using free travel card rewards points!
All right, my friends, I'm going to take a risky jump here and trust that you'll come back to my blog again. I'm not the only travel blogger out there (REALLY -- you didn't know, did you?), though I do hope that this little corner of the web-o-sphere is helpful. BUT, I know that I don't know it all. So today, I'm taking a risk and sharing a link about travel card rewards that will take you to two other travel bloggers who are absolutely amazing! Just remember me. Okay?

Without further ado, I would like you to meet Nomadic Matt, and his friend Brian Kelly. Brian is featured this week at Nomadic Matt's blog, explaining how to understand and maximize travel card rewards points. I like the post because Brian Kelly offers advice to maximize card points while still being financially wise. He is not encouraging you to go into debt or trash your credit score! That's respectable.

We use travel card points, but I haven't mastered it like he has. For example, we love to cruise and have enough cruise reward points to take a seven day cruise for two... now I just need to work out the babysitting. Free is definitely budget friendly!

At the moment, I don't need more points on that card, so we are using another card to build up travel card points for free flights. Paying our regular bills by credit card and then writing a single check at the end of the month gives us thousands of points with no additional expense.

But like I said, I don't have it mastered like Brian Kelly... so check out the post. If you leave a comment, please let them know I sent you! If you've taken a "free" points vacation, consider writing a guest post here. Not everyone understands points or how to redeem them... we'd love to learn from you.

Thank you, Nomadic Matt and Brian Kelly for sharing your travel wisdom!

Happy (hopefully free) travels!

As Canadians, not sure how our travel points work in relation to US based ones. That said, we have 2 different ones that have amazing programs. We totally fly for free on our annual Fla vacation every year.

Do you pay your bills with your cards like I do to build up points? That's the easiest thing I've found so far. No change whatsoever to everyday living, but always earning points.

We totally use our rewards points, and stay away from the airline specific ones. For us, we find we get more bang for our buck when we don't have to worry about a date the hotel or airline has availability!

Warmest regards,
Joy

Odd as it may sound I had never thought of using point cards. We don't really use our CC for anything beyond online purchases, we have generally been cash people. Definitely something to consider.

We always forget to use our points or when we want to they don't cover much!
You made me laugh when you guilted us into returning ;)

No guilt, Leigh... Just trying to help you be frugal and get the best trip you can!!! We used Royal Caribbean points on our last cruise to get shipboard credit to pay all the tips. That was nice!

And when the boys were little, we paid for a whole Disney vacation with Disney reward points. Now that we've (mostly) moved beyond Disney, we use other cards.

But please, no guilt!
