I say, ironically, though, because while the holiday offers a nationwide day off from "work," the day has become a national "Honey Do" holiday. Even though I write a travel blog, our family falls prey to the "Honey Do" Holiday.
On our list today:
- finish cleaning the college son's bedroom,
- paint the bonus room,
- install a couple ceiling fans on the screen porch (would have been nice to do that one before summer began),
- mow the lawn,
- weed the flower beds (though the rain might save us from this last one)
What's your family doing this Labor Day?
Thank you to all the workers who make this country great! Your work goes largely unseen (Did you ever wonder how all those products get to store shelves? Or how food gets to the farmers' market? Or hot water gets to your shower?) I hope you enjoy your much deserved day off!
Happy travels, friends.

i hear you! I have a huge list of things I want to get done today because I "Have the day off". Do people ever actually have the day off anymore?
We didn't do much today, just had a quiet day at home. I suppose you could consider that just making the most of the holiday. Stopping by from the VB Members to Remember. Hope you were able to enjoy some of your day.
We canned potatoes during our weekend. Oh and my son decided to jump on his bed and break the side rail, so we had to buy and put together a new frame for his bed as it was traumatic for him to have to sleep on the floor (he's 5).
And the kids go back to school, so we prepped for that as well.
Hope you got your honey do list done.
yes most of the time Labor Day is NOT a day off--7 years ago for me it really was a "LABOR" day I started going into labor with my son then--so every labor day weekend we have a multi celebration - the holiday BBQ, birthday and our anniversary.
Pamela,
Congratulations on your Labor Day baby -- seven years later. How fun to celebrate his own special holiday each year!
Thankfully we spent the day at the cottage, sitting on the dock beside the lake. No honey-do list for us!
We started a new Labor Day tradition last year to celebrate A Day About Dad. My poor dear lives with five women and he definitely deserves more than Father's Day to celebrate what a great man he is. We did that Saturday and Monday we rested! :)
I enjoyed your Day About Dad as I followed along on facebook. :) We added your BBQ place to our Birmingham to do list!
